In the U.S., the national organization provides subdomains to local
groups, such as the one for which I'm the webmaster:

http://www.palmbeach.us.mensa.org/

as well as some logical subdomains for particular functions, like the
AG ( http://ag.us.mensa.org/ ).

Some groups, and some years' AGs, have gone the "Stupid Unnecessary
Domain Name" route anyway, sometimes even with (gag, vomit) .com
addresses (inappropriate given their noncommercial nature), but (at
least recently) it's not for lack of proper subdomain availability.
For that matter, the national site is a subdomain of the
international one at mensa.org.

Unfortunately, the national office itself refused to get with the
program, and got its own Stupid Unnecessary Domain Name,
americanmensa.org, for staff e-mail addresses.
